Today we did some art with Sharon on the chromebooks. We learnt about the lines, shapes, space, texture and colour. I didn't want to do different colours because I liked the way it looked already.

In Ata Hapara the tau 4-8 have been doing book clubs.

First we pick a book that interests us and then we go into the group with others that picked the same book.

We then work out how many pages are in the book then how much pages we have to read a day.

While we read each section, we fill out our discussion ticket with figurative language, vocabulary, favorite paragraph, favorite part and discussion seed.

Finally we then share out information from our discussion ticket. Everyone in the group has a job each day, either translator, editor, illustrator or publicist.

This week I'm reading "Journey To Tangiwai"

This book is about a boy who is learning about the war that his dad and uncle were in.

Have you ever been in a book club before?

Maths

Last Friday as part of my math group Turoa and I ordered mixed fractions. I learnt what ascending and descending means. Ascending means it goes from least to greatest and descending goes from greatest to least.

The way to do it is

1- Look at denominator and numerator if all both and top numbers are different

2-  find a common denominator which means a number they all go into. E.g 2,4, 5, 10 all go i to 20.

3- Multiple. to get common denominator - then multiply numerator.

4- order in either ascending or descending

This is what I have tried

Inquiry

In inquiry we have to write a tree report and I chose to do Harakeke. There wasn't any life cycles for Harakeke so I made one myself.

It goes from a seed to a form of a Harakeke bush then into a full grown bush into a basket made from Harakeke.

Sphero Ramp

Today with Elizabeth we had to make a ramp for the sphero’s. I worked with Ezra.

Our ramp had a stand underneath it, with three bits of little cardboard.

The challenging thing about building the ramp was that it wasn't standing up properly.

Today Whaea Willie made us silent read for 15 minutes everyday. it has taken us a while for everybody to settle down but now I actually like reading, today I found out more about the Pohutukawa tree. tomorrow I will work more on focusing and to listen.

Thursday, August 13, 2020

This morning we learnt about the native trees in New Zealand. Kymaira and I chose to do the pohutukawa tree.

The Pohutukawa Trees english name and scientific name is Metrosideros Excelsa.

It grows best in warm and drier places so mainly the North Island, the tree is an Evergreen tree.

The Maori used the Pohutukawa Tree for medical uses and others used the wood for ship building.

Divisibility

Today in math with Sharon we learnt about the divisibility chart.

Why do we need to know this?

20 ➗ 2 =  10

24 ➗ 2 = 12

Divisibility chart

A number is divisibility by …

2- If the last digit is even or zero.

3- If the digits are divisible by three.

4- If the last two digits are divisible by four.

5- If the last is five.

6- If the number is divisible by two or three.

8- If the last three digits are divisible by eight.

9- If the digits are divisible by nine.

10- If the number ends in zero.

Winter Sport

Last Friday we had our first game for winter sport. We went to Avonside Girls High School to play netball. The A team, who I play for, played against South New Brighton and won 25-14. We had good defenders, we had our best shooters in GA and GS and I feel like we're shaping up to be a great team. I played C and WD. I'm really looking forward to the season because my team is the best I've played with in a while.

My Slide

Today we had to recap on what we had done in the holidays..
We had to explain about what we liked and disliked about what we did during the holidays.

Ruler

WALT: read a ruler accurately

This is the experiment we did. Person one held one end of the ruler and person two held the other end. Person one dropped the ruler while person two had to try catch the ruler with their index finger and thumb.
My scores were 1cm, 12cm, 14cm.
My best score was 1cm.
My average score was 9.3cm (1+12+14= 28, 28/3 = 9.3)

He Aha Te Wa?

He Aha Te Wa?
In the past week we have been learning to tell the time in maori.
First we drew a clock then in the clock we wrote the words in pakeha and maori. We then wrote quarter to (Hauwha ki te), half past (Haurua mai i te), o'clock (Karaka) an finally quarter past (Hauwha mai i te).
Below is the video of Naquita and I telling the time in maori.

The thing I liked most about learning the time in maori was that now I can answer my friends, family and kaiako  what the time is.
Do you know how to tell the time in maori?
Thank you for reading my blog.

E Hia

This week we've learnt how to ask how many people there are or how many things there are in maori. Below is my animation. The way you ask for how many people there are is "tokohia nga ...?" and the way you ask for how many things is "E hia nga ....?"
The one thing I found the most challenging was getting the shapes into form.

Paua & Paraoa Parai

Today my dad made paua patties and fried bread.
He copied the recipe whaea put up on our class site.
We had frozen paua in our freezer that he cooked up. The taste of the fried bread is like dry doughnut. The taste of it is so delicious and spectacular.
