Whakatauki

The task I chose to do for Te Re Maori was to find a kiwaha or a whakatauki that relates to my whanau's experience during this lockdown. The whakatauki I chose was "Ka pu te ruha, ka hao te rangatahi" which means "As a old net withers, a new one is made". This realtes to my whanau because lately during lockdown we've been finding my Oma's really old baking/cooking recipe's and adding in new ingredients as well as sorting through her old teaching stuff.

Jupiter, Mars And The Great Red Spot

How much do you know about Jupiter and Mars? Do you know about the Great Red spot?

Mars is the fourth planet away from the Sun. The distance 248.93 million km. Mars is nicknamed " the red planet" because its surface is covered in a mineral called iron oxide which also tends to have a red colour to it. Mars is the second-smallest planet in the Solar System being only bigger than Mercury. Mars is also apart of the terrestrial planet group. Mars's diameter is also 4,212 miles. Mars is about half the size of the sun. The temperatures on Mars can range from 80 degrees to 67 degrees'f. It takes Mars 687 days to orbit around the sun. The axis rotation for day/night on Mars is only lasts for 24 hours and 39 minutes which is very similar Earth's axis rotation.

Jupiter is the fifth planet away from the Sun. The distance between Jupiter and the Sun is 483 million miles. Jupiter is made up from helium, hydrogen, ammonia and methane. Jupiter has 65 satellites. The closest one is Io and the farthest away is Europa. Jupiter is on of the gas giant planets. Jupiter's diameter is 86,880 miles. It is the largest planet and is twice the size of all the other planets combined. Temperatures on Jupiter can differ greatly. The average temperature in the clouds is - 234 degrees'f. The temperature near the planet's center is much hotter, 43,000 degrees'f. It takes Jupiter 11.9 years to orbit around the sun. The axis rotation for day/night on Jupiter takes only 9.9 hours.

The Great Red Spot is the whirlpool of storms in Jupiter and can also be seen with a telescope. There is a permanent (but is always changing) whirlpool of storms in Jupiter.

Pinwheel Scones

Today I decided to do one of the technology activites Whaea Jasmine sent, there were plenty of activities to choose from. The first activity I chose to do was to name different foods alphabetically, after that I then translated the ones I could, into Te Reo.

After that I decided to look on the cooking site and I found recipes for the foods. I made a Pinwheel scone with some help by my Mum. At first I had no idea what I was doing but that was because I didn't really read the instructions properly, I just skimmed the text. I made a ton of mess but I enjoyed the task.

When they were finally cooked I gave one to my Oma, Mum and sister. The pinwheels, at first tasted a bit doughy but in the middle it tasted like a apple type scone.

Here is the link for the recipe.

What Do You Know About Saturn?

How much do you know about Saturn?
Before we got into lockdown, the tuakana in Ata Hapara had to choose a planet from the solar system and find out some interesting facts about it. I chose to do Saturn because I of how Saturn looks, choosing Saturn taught me a lot of things about it that I didn't even know about.
Below is the doc with things I found out about Saturn.
